If you ever taught a course on data science, you likely found yourself in this situation: You want to cover the ethics of data science. But have only one or two sessions to do so. And: students have no background in ethics! In short, how do you teach ethics to non-ethicists within a session or two -- and, perhaps, without having much a background in ethics teaching yourself? You face a similar issue when you want to teach a course on the ethics of data science: You need to cover the basics of data science, but you have at most two sessions to do so, and your students (and perhaps you yourself) have little no background in data science. In short, you need to teach data science to non-data scientists.
Ethics ✕ Data Science offers resources and materials to teach data science to non-data scientists and ethics to non-ethicists. We prepare and collect tutorials, teaching ideas, and cases to cover some of the basics of data science and ethics. Our own background is in professional schools of public policy and public administration, where courses have few prerequisites and students expect to learn a lot in a relatively short amount of time. This project has been generously supported by APSIA, the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs, the Hertie School Berlin, and the Maxwell School at Syracuse University.
